Beautiful Hill of Tarvit Wedding
Jo & Mark’s wedding at historic Hill of Tarvit, St Andrews
Hill of Tarvit Wedding – Jo and Mark travelled from their home in Sydney to get married at the wonderful National Trust property, Hill of Tarvit situated just outside St Andrews. For a Scottish wedding photographer it is fantastic to find a hidden gem like Hill of Tarvit which is only just being marketed as a wedding venue. There are so many locations that can be used for your wedding photography, the possibilities are endless.
Hill of Tarvit is one of the finest Edwardian mansion houses in Scotland, built in the 17th-century. It is also famous for the estate’s 9-hole hickory golf course, where you can step back in time and enjoy a round of golf as it was played over 100 years ago, with traditional clubs, bags, tees and balls. golf course.
Jo and Mark met in Scotland 7 years ago while Jo was following the well worn Antipodean trail to the UK. After a few years they decided that they wanted to make Australia their home so Mark emigrated to be with Jo in Sydney.
Jo got ready in St Andrews where the family had hired a house for the week, even Jo’s Granny made the trip over. They chose to have their wedding outside in gorgeous sunshine, though the forecast was for a few spots of rain later on!
Mark arrived early flanked by his ushers and friends from their days at St Andrews Univeristy. They enjoyed the early warm sunshine meeting and greeting friends and family who had arrived from all over the UK and Australia for the wedding.
The guests arrived by double decker bus from St Andrews, though unfortunately it was about 30 minutes late which had later implications. The forecast for the day was for beautiful sunshine although the black clouds began to appear behind the guests as the outdoor ceremony continued.
Jo and Mark managed to finish the wedding ceremony and just as they were starting to walk down to the Hickory Golf Club to start the wedding reception the heavens opened unleashing an enormous thunderstorm 5 minutes after the ceremony finished forcing everyone to dash for the marquee for shelter! Nothing could take the smile off everyone’s faces though and the staff coped admirably with the change of plans.
The Hill of Tarvit staff, led by Karl were fantastic though and allowed us into the house to do the shoot wth Jo and Mark, unfortunately we were not allowed to shoot with flash in the main great hall due to the ancient tapestries, however, Karl kindly let us use another room for some portaits.
As soon as we finished the group shots the skies cleared to reveal a fantastic blue sky and bright sunshine. Jo and Mark agreed to make best use of the conditions and the grounds of the house so we went to explore for a short time and got some beautiful images for them to remember their wedding.
The evening reception started off with Mark’s two best men recounting numerous tales of University debauchery to much embarrassment laughter with Jo’s side represented by a very amusing speech given by one of their Australian friends.
this was a fantastic wedding with a wonderful couple who were so relaxed given the weather and were determined to make the very best of a fantastic venue with all it had to offer. I cannot recommend Hill of Tarvit enough as a Scottish wedding venue, it has wonderful locations for wedding photography and in Karl someone who will do everything he can to make your day memorable.
