Don’t let the paperwork involved with your wedding trip you up!
You BOTH must complete and submit a marriage notice from. This is a form that you can download from the registrars website or from the registry office. You can submit these completed forms up to 15 days prior to the service, though this is cutting things a little fine. You should aim to have the form completed and returned at least four weeks before your wedding day; six weeks is recommended for those who have been married before.
The forms must be submitted to the Registrars Office WHERE you are intending on getting married which may not be your local office, along with any fees. You will also need to supply original birth certificate, divorce certificate (if either party has been married before) and death certificate (if either party has a previous partner who has died.)
The Registrar will enter your names into the Marriage Notice Book and onto a list of planned marriages. This needs to be displayed for a minimum of 14 days where the public can view it. If the Registrar is satisfied that no-one objects to you being married they will then prepare the marriage schedule.
The Bride or Groom must collect the schedule in PERSON not more than one week prior to the wedding; note, it cannot be collected on your behalf. You must then hand it to the Wedding Celebrant prior to the wedding taking place.
You must have two witnesses over the age of 16 present at your wedding.
You must sign the schedule immediately after the ceremony in black fountain pen along with the two witnesses and the celebrant.
You must return the schedule to the Registrar within 3 days, this can be done on your behalf if you are going on honeymoon straight away.
