Ceremony Types in Scotland – Civil Ceremonies
In Scotland there are two types of ceremony, Civil and Religious. Religious ceremonies include marriage by any Christian celebrant and also from other religions like Islam, Judaism or other beliefs such as Humanist and Interfaith.
Civil ceremonies in Scotland are conducted by a district registrar, either at the registrars offices or at any other approved location. There are literally hundreds of locations to choose from and are a very popular choice of ceremony for many couples. The best source of information is to go to website of the General Register Office for Scotland and have a look at the list of approved venues for the area. If you want to get married in your back garden you will have to apply for a license, but the registrar for the area will be able to talk you through what is involved.
